Six quick steps in Word, and your book comes back clean, on time, and with no surprises.
Formatting is the last step before publishing. Send your final, proofread manuscript, with nothing still being rewritten or moved around.
Skip fonts, line spacing, margins, and page numbers; all of that is rebuilt in your chosen style. Avoid using tabs or the spacebar to position text. Have block quotes, poems, or letters? Just list where they are in the Formatting Notes on the order form.
Start each chapter title with the word Chapter (for example, Chapter 1: The Letter) and put a page break before it. Use standard names for extra pages, like Introduction, Acknowledgments, About the Author. Delete your own table of contents, since a clickable one is built for you.
Where the story or topic shifts within a chapter, put *** on a line by itself. It becomes a clean ornamental break in your book.
Place images in the Word file where they belong, at high quality, and turn complex tables or charts into images. For footnotes, use Word's Insert Footnote tool instead of typing numbers.
Accept all tracked changes and delete comments and notes to yourself. Send the whole book as one Word (.docx) file. Using Google Docs? Choose File → Download → Microsoft Word. Files over 8 MB can be shared as a Google Drive or Dropbox link.
Every manuscript is reviewed before the 5-day turnaround begins. If anything needs attention, we'll send you a short, specific list of what to fix, so your book is formatted right the first time.
